2024 / Solo Performance

Company Rau recently graced the stage at Catania Off Festival 2024 with their powerful solo performance titled Dido. Over the course of four shows, Korhan Basaran captivated audiences with a visceral expression of emotion, movement and narrative, leaving a lasting impression. His performance was met with warm praise, as attendees experienced his unique storytelling through dance.

This incredible opportunity was made possible through the support of Thess Fringe, who awarded Company RAu the grant that allowed him to participate in the festival. Their belief in his work and his artistic vision was a crucial part of bringing Dido to the international stage.

Special thanks also go to ZO Culture for providing an amazing space to bring this vision to life. The team there played a significant role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment that contributed to the success of the performances.

ORLANDO TRIP (Fox On Ice, AT) and DIDO (Company RAu, TR) present a poetic rebellion against the rigid borders that are a serious threat in all areas of life and societies. This special meeting presents two ancient European myths that have been repeatedly explored in world literature as contemporary stage performances. ORLANDO TRIP and DIDO mirror the universal human needs and emotions. This interconnected performance duo creates a space of shared synergy with its ancient texture, contemporary approach and utopian proposition.

2024 / Tour

We have finished our Brighton Fringe tour and we have to say it was both a challenging and incredibly rewarding experience. Our performances on the 14th, 16th and 17th of May at the Rotunda Theatre were unforgettable. The stormy weather, surprisingly, added a dramatic touch to our shows, enhancing the overall atmosphere in an unexpected way.

Performing at the Rotunda Theatre was a fantastic opportunity. The venue's intimate setting allowed us to connect closely with our audience, making each show uniquely special and memorable. The weather outside, far from being a hindrance, contributed to the immersive experience, creating a perfect backdrop for our performances.

The camaraderie within our team and the incredible support from the festival staff made the entire experience even more enjoyable. We felt welcomed and encouraged every step of the way, which kept our spirits high and our performances strong.

We were also thrilled to receive positive feedback from reviewers. Broadway Baby praised our show, highlighting the compelling performances and the effective use of the intimate space. Fringe Review commended our innovative approach and the powerful impact of our storytelling. These reviews were a wonderful validation of our hard work and creativity.

Overall, being part of Brighton Fringe was an extraordinary experience. We are grateful for the opportunity to showcase our work at such a vibrant and diverse arts festival. We look forward to future performances and continuing our journey in the theatre world with renewed passion and enthusiasm.

2023 / Festival

SEA CHANGE is a special edition of the wortwiege theater festival, which focuses on the international and intercreative work of the organiser. The festival is intended to focus on the art of transformation according to William Shakespeare and use art to make a wide variety of approaches to a new whole.

2023 / Tour

On November 2nd, at the 26th Theater Festival organized by IKSV, all tickets were sold out within a week and the performance of DIDO at Alan Kadıköy, one of Istanbul's most prestigious young stages, was played to a Sold Out audience.

Later, on March 30th, it was showcased again at Alan Kadıköy.

On May 6th, it was performed at Bursa Sanat Mahal, followed immediately by a presentation at ToPikap, the alternative art center of Thessaloniki, within the city's first Fringe Festival on May 26th.

On May 28th, Korhan Başaran conducted an intensive "RAu workshop" at Transcendance, one of Thessaloniki's renowned dance centers, with the participation of young Greek dancers.

On June 3rd, it took place at Theatre Nous, one of Athens' newly established young stages. On June 29th, it became a guest of the festival of Sfumato, one of Sofia's esteemed theaters.

Dido is at Thess Fringe Festival 2023!

DIDO is a solo multidisciplinary gender-fluid performance by Istanbul-based artist Korhan Basaran that reflects the myth of DIDO and Aeneas using elements of dance, theater, new music and video projection to explore themes of human desire, frustration and heartbreak.

Basaran, in collaboration with Tolga Yayalar's original composition and Ataman Girisken's projection design, takes the audience on a journey deep into DIDO's mind as she falls in love and is ultimately destroyed by her own desire.

Language is an extension of movement as Basaran's body softens, explodes, hides, accuses while DIDO's mind is blown realizing her betrayal.

Dansçı ve koreograf Korhan Başaran, dans tiyatrosu olarak yarattığı Dido ’nun İstanbul prömiyeri ile karşımızda! Başaran, Romalı şair Virgil’in Aeneid ve İngiliz yazar Christopher Marlowe’un Kartaca Kraliçesi Dido eserlerinden ilham alarak kurguladığı tek kişilik performansında seyirciyi dönüştürücü bir deneyimin tam kalbine götürüyor.

Antik tarihin iki önemli figürü olan Kraliçe Dido ve Truvalı Aeneas’ın ilişkisinden yola çıkarak kırık bir kalbin insana fiziksel ve ruhsal olarak yaşattıklarını anlatan performans, tutkusu ve sadakati yüzünden yavaşça ölüme sürüklenen Dido’nun Aeneas’a duyduğu aşkın deliliğini yansıtıyor. Disiplinlerarası performans, Tolga Yayalar’ın sürprizlerle dolu ses tasarımı ve Ataman Girişken’in mekânı devamlı yenileyen görsel tasarımıyla seyirciyi zaman ve mekân algısına meydan okuyan bir hikâyeyi yaşamaya davet ediyor.

Başaran’ın 2012 yılında New York’taki Between the Sea Festivali’nde sunduğu RAu fikrinden doğan Company RAu, kuruluşundan bu yana ürettiği uluslararası projelerle BAM Brooklyn, Alvin Ailey Tiyatrosu, Zorlu PSM, Cunningham Studio, Baryshnikov Merkezi gibi mekânlarda izleyicilerle buluştu. Estetik arayışının temelini tecrübeden almakla birlikte, değişime açık olma, kırılganlıktan ve belirsizlikten korkmadan ilerleme düşüncelerini benimseyen RAu, çalışmalarına İstanbul’da devam ediyor.

Dido will premiere at Bilkent Theater’s MainStage on the 20th (English) and 21st and 22nd (Turkish) of January. Inspired from the strong historical figures, Dido, Queen of Carthage and Aeneas of Troy, this one person, gender fluid unique production of Dido, aims to take the audience into the mind and heart of a transformative experience.

Conceptualized and performed by Korhan Basaran, Dido’s text has been re-written by Basaran with inspiration from Virgil’s Aeneid and Christopher Marlowe’s Dido; Queen of Carthage..

With original composition by Tolga Yayalar and visual design by Ataman Girisken Company RAu’s “Dido” is an interdisciplinary performance aims to find the physical and spiritual life that surrounds a broken heart. Dido’s costume is from the collection of the renowned fashion designer Ümit Ünal.
