On Company RAu's DIDO

A body descending into desire, betrayal, sound and image.

DIDO reflects the myth of Dido and Aeneas through dance, theater, new music, text and video projection, tracing human desire, frustration, loyalty, heartbreak and collapse.

Basaran takes the audience deep into Dido's mind as language becomes an extension of movement. The body softens, explodes, hides and accuses while sound and projection shift the perception of time and stage space.

The text has been rewritten by Basaran with inspiration from Virgil's Aeneid and Christopher Marlowe's Dido, Queen of Carthage.

A unique viewpoint that creates an intimate connection between the audience and Dido's emotional journey.

What People Said

Critical responses from Vienna and Brighton.

With Basaran's interpretation of Dido, he continues to write a tradition that has captivated countless generations to date and, judging by the audience reaction, continues to emotionally grip them today.

Elisabeth Ritonja, European Cultural News

Korhan Basaran mixes his monologue, created with Virgil and Marlowe, with an expressive embodiment in a foolish disguise, atmospherically strong projections and a suitably powerful sound.

TANZKRITIK, Der Standard

Company RAu's DIDO has a strong flow of creativity and vulnerability. One to watch.

Sascha Cooper, Broadwaybaby.com

In the last ten minutes the dance and score and visuals began to work together again, coming together in a fiery climax.
